The 'SWASTHYA SARVOTTAM' Program: Healthcare for All

The Samarthan Trust’s healthcare mission is centered on the principle of ‘Swasthya Sarvottam’ (Health is Paramount), aiming to provide comprehensive health and hygiene support to the poor and vulnerable communities in India. This program moves beyond basic treatment to ensure a future of better public health and hygiene practices for every individual.

Direct Care: Free Medical Camps and Assistance

Conducting free medical camps to serve underprivileged communities and providing medical assistance to those unable to afford care.

Industry-Aligned Training Hubs

Organizing frequent, free medical camps in slums, remote villages, and tribal areas. These camps feature general physicians, pediatricians, dentists, and ophthalmologists. ○ Services Provided: General check-ups, basic diagnostic tests (blood pressure, sugar, anemia), minor treatments, and provision of essential, free medicines for common ailments.

Specialized Screening and Referral

Conducting targeted screening camps for prevalent issues like vision problems, diabetes, hypertension, and women's health. Patients identified with serious illnesses are referred to empanelled hospitals for follow-up.

Critical Illness Fund

Establishing a dedicated Medical Assistance Fund to provide financial support for life-saving treatments, surgeries, and specialized care (like cancer or kidney dialysis) for individuals and families living Below Poverty Line (BPL) who cannot access government schemes or afford treatment. This includes helping them utilize major government schemes like Ayushman Bharat - PM-JAY.

Institutional Support and Professional Training

Establishing institutions for medical education and training healthcare professionals.

Healthcare Professional Training

Partnering with existing colleges or establishing Samarthan-affiliated centers to offer certified, subsidized paramedical and allied healthcare training (e.g., General Duty Assistant, Phlebotomy Technician, Community Health Worker) to youth from low-income backgrounds

ASHA/Anganwadi Worker Support

Conducting regular capacity-building workshops for local ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist) and Anganwadi workers, providing them with advanced training, resource kits, and continuous education on maternal, child, and geriatric care

Infrastructure Aid

Providing necessary equipment, technical manuals, and financial grants to upgrade basic facilities at Primary Health Centres (PHCs) in remote or tribal areas.

Public Health and Hygiene Awareness

Organizing health awareness campaigns and medical initiatives for public health, and implementing awareness programs on various social and health issues, creating a future of better hygiene for every individual.

WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) Campaigns

Focused, interactive workshops in schools and communities on:
○ Handwashing: Proper technique and critical times for handwashing. ○ Safe Water: Water purification methods and storage practices. ○ Sanitation: The importance of using toilets and safe disposal of waste (in line with the Swachh Bharat Mission).

Women's Health & MHM

Dedicated sessions on Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) to destigmatize menstruation, educate on the use and safe disposal of sanitary materials, and distribute free or low-cost sanitary kits

Disease Prevention Drives

Annual campaigns focusing on the prevention of common communicable (e.g., Dengue, Malaria, Tuberculosis) and non-communicable diseases (e.g., Diabetes, Hypertension) through nutrition and lifestyle modification advice.

Digital Health Literacy

Using mobile vans and local media (like community radio) to disseminate accurate health information, demystify health myths, and promote the benefits of government health schemes

Chronic Illness Support & Entitlement Access

Assisting individuals and communities with healthcare challenges, particularly for serious illnesses.

Government Scheme Enrollment

Operating help desks at community centers and medical camps to actively assist eligible BPL families in enrolling for government health insurance and welfare schemes (like PM-JAY, PMMVY, etc.) by helping with paperwork and documentation (Aadhaar, Ration Card).

Medication Assistance

Setting up a network to provide subsidized or free long-term medication for chronic diseases (like Diabetes and BP) that require continuous management and would otherwise be prohibitively expensive for low-income families.

Post-Discharge Follow-up

Establishing a system of community health volunteers who conduct home visits to serious illness patients after discharge to ensure medication adherence, proper wound care, and nutritional support, reducing the risk of costly re-hospitalization.

This four-pronged 'SAKSHAM' approach ensures that Samarthan Trust addresses economic deprivation through skills and entrepreneurship, while simultaneously promoting the vital physical and mental health necessary for long-term success

Empowering women and youth through education, skills, and healthcare for a better tomorrow.
